Zion Farms Summer Equestrian Camp is focused on kids who LOVE horses and want to be around others that are as horse crazy as they are! The goal is on FUN and HORSES! The riders are given the opportunity to grow and experience new things on new horses, but the main goal is truly to have a good time on the farm doing what they love best- RIDING! Riding Instruction: Instruction is focused toward strengthening each riderÁs foundation and on helping each rider to advance in their riding. Campers ride twice daily. Morning Ride: Intense group and one on one instruction. Riders are ability grouped. The instructional groups have 3-5 students in each. Afternoon Ride: This is a fun ride, where campers will play games on horseback, learn drill team routines to music, ride the trails or go on bareback rides. Barn Talk and Equine Theory Classes: When not riding, campers will participate in ËBarn TalkÓ and ËEquine ManagementÓ, two classes focused on strengthening campers understanding of the care and management of the horse. Barn Talk is a hands on class with the horses every day, while Equine Management builds on the same topics using videos, models, guest speakers, and fun activities. The weekÁs objectives/subjects will vary according to the experience level of each group. Topics often will include: *Horse Anatomy and Physiology *Safety Around Horses and Recognizing your HorseÁs Body Language *Tacking and Learning Proper Tack Fit *How/what to Properly Feed your Horse *Body Condition Scoring and Desirable vs. Undesirable Conformation *Breeds, Genetics and the Evolution of Different Breeds *Principals of Shoeing and Anatomy of the HorseÁs Hoof *How to Apply Equine Body Language for Safer and More Effective Lunging (Hunters only).
